To be honest, we´d rather not. Yes, we work towards abolishing our organization. That very day when our mission is completed, when no more child is abused or neglected, we happily “retire”. Until then, we feel compelled to stay. We are based in the northern part of the Island of Mindanao, Philippines. The Philippines is the global epicenter for online material of sexual abuse of children. Reports suggest that In Mindanao alone, 300.000 children or more suffer from sexual abuse in one form or another. 300.000! And 44% are below 12 years old, some are under 6 years old. Trauma resulting from abuse, violence and neglect have a huge cost: For the victims, and for the society as a whole. Unprocessed, unhealed trauma may seriously impact victims for their whole life – and more, it is often passed on to the next generation. And children are the most vulnerable. Balik Kaanyag was founded to care for, heal and empower these children. To give them hope and a future. To restore the beauty of life. Balik Kaanyag!
