When “Aliah” was 13 years old, she was sexually abused by a man whom her parents considered a family friend. He threatened to kill her family if she tells anyone about the abuse. This lasted for about two years. As a result, “Aliah” was deeply traumatized. Even after her perpetrator was convicted, she still suffered from nightmares, auditory hallucination and hopelessness. Then, the local social welfare office of her place referred her to  Balik Kaanyag. She participated in Balik Kaanyag’s various programs – Empowerment Camp, Happy Day-Out and individualized therapy sessions. After almost a year of intensive intervention, “Aliah” no longer suffers from nightmares and hallucinations. She is also growing in confident resilience. Aliah is now in college enjoying the support of family and friends.

“Balik Kaanyag programs have truly been a big help. Their support, such as counseling sessions and group activities, has helped me better understand and pay attention to my feelings and struggles. It has eased my worries and helped me realize that I am not alone in my struggles. Balik Kaanyag has greatly contributed to my emotional and mental health. With their guidance and support, I have developed a more positive view of myself and my experiences. Their support system and interventions have aided in my healing process, and little by little, I have felt a change that has strengthened me and helped me move forward. The trauma I faced didn’t disappear overnight, but through Balik Kaanyag’s programs, my knowledge and self-awareness have grown, enabling me to accept and process it properly.”
